Critical Update for IBM SPSS 27

Updated January 12, 2022

A vulnerability that is being exploited in the wild is part of the IBM SPSS installations. Please follow the instructions below to remove old versions of SPSS from your computers, install FixPack 1 for SPSS 27 (27.0.1), and replace the vulnerable files.

If you have your own site license copy of SPSS from Western, you likely received an email from the Campus Computer Store or Tech Hub, to fix your installation.

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Double-click S:\Add-Remove Programs
  3. Look for older copies of IBM SPSS Statistics 26, 25, 24, etc.
    1. Click on each instance and choose Uninstall.
    2. Do NOT uninstall version 27.
  4. On the left, choose Install a program from the network
  5. If you don't have IBM SPSS Statistics 27 installed, you must install that first.
  6. Select IBM SPSS Statistics 27 FixPack 1, choose Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
  7. On the final screen, uncheck the box to run the License Authorization Wizard.
  8. After the installation of the FixPack 1, if SPSS is running, please close it.
  9. Open File Explorer
  10. Double-click S:\Add-Remove Programs
  11. On the left, choose Install a program from the network
  12. Select IBM SPSS Log4j Fix and choose Install.

Test SPSS after you complete this procedure. If you are prompted for the license again, experience any difficulties, or are having trouble with your own site license copy of SPSS, please open a ticket using the Service Desk link on the right.
