SSC Network Update
24/7 Access in SSCL’s Largest Lab Doug Link/Steve Rumas Room 1032, SSCL’s largest undergraduate computing room with 53 computers, is being converted for 24-hour availability. Social Science undergraduate students will now have two computer rooms available on a 24-hour basis by using their student card in a swipe reader. Room 1000, with 25 computers, has been available since September, 2002. Room 1032 is expected to be in 24-hour service by mid-October. Both rooms have an emergency phone which can be used to make local calls in the London area. A black and white laser printer service will be available in Room 1032 near the end of the calendar year. Over the summer, a 5-ton air conditioner was installed for the purposes of cooling Room1032, 24-hours a day, to alleviate overheating problems when building air is turned off at night. At this time, it remains too expensive to add cooling for Room 1000; so after hours, it should be considered an overflow for Room 1032.
