SSC Network Update

SSCL Upgraded Computing Rooms

The conversion of space in Somerville House to classrooms resulted in university-wide reallocation of space. As a result, SSCL lost two user rooms – the General Workroom (formerly SSC 1004) and the Graduate Computing Room (formerly SSC 1040). Space was reorganized in the SSCL as follows:

Graduate Computing Room moved to SSC 1038
The graduate computing room (formerly SSC 1040) has been moved next door, to SSC 1038. It has been equipped with 12 new, more powerful Pentium III 450 MHz systems each with:

128 MB memory
8.4 GB hard drive
250 MB ZIP removable disk drive (supports both 100MB and 250MB disks)
48 x CDROM drive
17 inch SVGA colour monitor
sound card and headphones.

The room is available around the clock via a building key and is protected by a fibre alarm system.

Seminar Room moved to SSC 1030
The seminar room (formerly SSC 1038) has been moved down the hall to SSC 1030. The new room has dimmer-controlled pot lights and is equipped with the following:

ceiling-mounted, 800 x 600 LCD projector (new)
Pentium II 350 MHz instructor's station connected to the projector with:
- 64 MB memory
- 8.4 GB hard disk drive
- 36x CDROM drive
- 100 MB ZIP removable disk drive
10 student systems ( 7 Pentium II 266 MHz and 3 Pentium 233 MHz systems)
seating for 20

This room can be reserved for class instruction or presentations.

Data Resources Library door moved
The Data Resources Library remains in the same location, however the entrance door had to be moved down the hall closer to the main office. The room number has also changed from SSC 1004A to simply SSC 1004.
