SSC Network Update

Did you know…

You own personal disk space on the SSC Network?
Every Social Science user is given an allotment of network storage space that is known as the 'H:' drive. Unlike the C: drive, which is internal to the PC, your H: drive travels with you and is available wherever you log on. Personal settings and E-mail profiles are stored on H: and automatically retrieved by Windows, Netscape and PINE as needed. Also, since all H: drives are backed up nightly, accidentally deleted files are often recoverable. The H: drive is a good alternative to using floppy disks to store files and documents since floppies can become damaged and unreadable.

You can easily create your own desktop shortcuts?
Instead of always having to click on the Start Menu to run a program, create a shortcut on your desktop. First, right-click the Start Menu and select Explore from the menu. From the right side of the Exploring window you will see Programs and SSC Network. Use these as your guides and double-click to find the desired program. Once you've found it, right-click the program item and, holding down the right mouse button, drag the item to your desktop. Release the button and select Create Shortcut(s) Here. A shortcut to the program now appears on your desktop!
