SSC Network Update
BRIEFS
PsycLIT No Longer Offered
The American Psychological Association (APA) recently decided to make significant changes in its product offerings and has discontinued PsycLIT. The goal of the APA is to have all PsycLIT users migrate to PsycINFO. In order to obtain the most current psychological abstracts, SSCL recommends that users begin using PsycINFO via the Library's web server at:
https://www.lib.uwo.ca/database/secure/jumpstart.shtml. Although it is no longer being undated, PsycLIT will remain on the SSC Network until December
31st of this year.
User Quotas Increased
Due to increased demand, user disk quotas have been increased. Faculty and staff now have a 20MB limit on their H: drives while students have a 10MB limit. ITS has increased Julian E-mail quotas from 5MB to 10MB. Additional space may be obtained for special requests.
Social Science Domain Name Changed
The Internet domain name for the Social Science Centre Network has been changed to ssc.uwo.ca. The biggest impact of the name change is on URLs that are posted by departments and faculty with web pages. Any references to Social Science web pages (on business cards, correspondence, etc.) should use the new domain name.
Some commonly used Internet addresses using the new domain name are:
www.ssc.uwo.ca
Social Science Home Page
ftp.ssc.uwo.ca
Social Science FTP Server
nexus.ssc.uwo.ca
Scratch (S:) drive access via FTP
quantus.ssc.uwo.ca
Faculty/staff/graduate student home (H:) drive access via FTP
titan.ssc.uwo.ca
Undergraduate student home (H:) drive access via FTP
VendaCard Printer in Graduate Computing Room
The graduate student computing room in SSC 1038 will soon be equipped with a high-speed HP Laserjet 4050 printer controlled by a VendaCard reader. The new printer will provide graduate students with 24-hour access to laser printing facilities. Output to the printer is charged at the rate of 5 cents/page and must be charged to a standard Graphics Services VendaCard similar to the general printing service offered in
SSC 1012.
Student Computing Accounts
Does your course have a compulsory computing lab component and are there
non-Social Science students in the class? If so, an "Instructional Account" form, available from the SSCL main office, must be filled out by the instructor at the beginning of the course in order for the SSCL to set up computer accounts for non-SS students.
