SSC Network Update

Undergraduate Computing Accounts

Les Flodrowski

Beginning this September every undergraduate student enrolled in the Faculty is automatically given a Windows 95 computing account for use on the SSC Network. The account remains active until the year of graduation or the student is no longer registered in the Faculty. The username assigned to a Social Science account is identical to the login name of the student’s UNIX (Julian and Panther) account.  Passwords, however, are different and students are advised to change their Windows 95 password to match their UNIX password the first time they log on to the Network.

Student quotas on the SSC Network remain at 1.44MB.  Anyone with a UNIX account can obtain an additional 5MB of storage space by mapping a Windows 95 drive to their UNIX account via the SAMBA server.  Instructions for doing this can be found in the document entitled Getting Started with Windows 95 on the SSC Network found at the URL ssts.uwo.ca/helpnotes.
