SSC Network Update

Microsoft Campus Agreement Changes

Elizabeth Hill

Faculty and staff members of the Faculty of Social Science are eligible to install Microsoft software products onto their home PCs for the purposes of working at home. This offers enormous savings to members of this group, since purchasing licensed copies of these products is costly. The Faculty of Social Science is able to offer this benefit due to the faculty’s participation in the Microsoft Campus Agreement.

Distribution Policy

Effective immediately, the software distribution policy for Work at Home Rights has changed. Copies of the software can no longer be borrowed. Faculty and staff may exercise one of the following options:

  • You can now obtain and keep your own CD-ROM product distribution set from SSCL for a minimal charge that covers the cost of the media only. The terms of the agreement require us to acquire the media in minimum quantities of 25 per title. As a result, we will acquire only the most recent software titles. The media cost will range from $10 for Windows XP Professional Upgrade to $20 for Office XP Professional. Each CD-ROM will have its own authorization key.

  • If you do not want to obtain your own CD-ROM media for Work at Home use, SSCL will install the software for you. To do so, however, you must bring your desktop or notebook computer into SSCL. We will not distribute media sets for older software products such as Office 2000. In these cases you will have to bring your computer in so that we can install the software for you.

  • The Data Resources Library is responsible for administering the distribution of software under the Microsoft Campus Agreement. Please go to SSC 1004 to obtain additional details concerning this policy.

Terms of Agreement

Work at Home rights permit faculty and staff members to install qualifying products on their home PC for use on work related matters only. The software may not be used for personal use.

The software may only be used during the licensed period. If the agreement is terminated or if you are no longer employed at UWO within the Faculty of Social Science, the software must be deleted from your PC.

Questions concerning the agreement or availability of the software products can be directed to Liz Hill at Ext. 85049.
