Markex Examination Scanning Service in SSCL

Douglas Link

SSCL now offers a free Markex examination scanning service for departments in the Faculty of Social Science.  This is a read-only service suitable for instructors who do their own file editing and computerized marking with UWOVAX Markex or Windows 95 Scan Exam software.

Some restrictions for this service are:

  • The SSCL ScanMark 2500 scanner  is an ink and pencil mark reader suitable for reading the new Markex Scantron Form No. F10193-WU.  The new form differs from the old one simply by its reddish colour required for use by ink-sensitive readers.  The old purple Markex forms cannot be read.  New forms are available from UWO’s Stationery Stores.
  • The reading service is available in the SSCL Main Office, SSC 1228 during the hours 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday on a first-come, first-served basis.  We request that all forms provided to us must be in pre-counted crisscrossed piles of 50 sheets.
  • The resulting file of scanned images will be sent to the instructor via E-mail or written to a diskette provided by the instructor.  Forms must be picked up by the professor on the same day as processing.  Exams will not be kept over night on SSCL premises.
We look forward to providing this service for the Faculty and welcome suggestions for its improvement as we gain experience.  In no way does this service prevent instructors from continuing with the excellent ITS Markex processing services.  ITS offers a full range of marking services including editing and all computer processing.  Our service caters to do-it-yourself instructors and its availability may help to reduce some of the congestion that occurs during examination periods.
