SSC Network Update

New Scanner and PC Camera

Liz Hill

Do your Web Pages need a boost? Need access to a scanner or PC camera? A new scanner and PC camera were installed in the Social Science Computing Laboratory during the summer months, and are available for use by all members of the Social Science Faculty. The new additions are located in SSC 1012, where the help desk and VendaCard printing services are delivered.

The scanner is an HPScanJet 6350C, and the software that operates the scanner features the ability to scan images and text, and has Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities. The Intel PC camera is located at the same workstation as the scanner and can be used to capture still images or create videos.

Specialized software that operate the camera and the scanner are installed on the PC that both devices are attached to. Documentation related to how to operate these devices is located at the multimedia workstation in SSC 1012. The workstation is available on a first-come, first-serve basis during the lab's regular hours of operation.
